What temperature should I set my thermostat at during the day and at night?
While temperature levels in the home are a matter of individual preference, we recommend setting the thermostat at these levels:
18°C (64°F) – when sleeping
16°C (61°F) – when no one is at home.
What is the largest user of energy in my home? Usually the largest energy consumer is the water heater. It can account for 20% of the total energy bill each month. To reduce this expense, make sure your water heater is well insulated and insulate the hot water pipes if they are open. You should also turn the water heater down to between 50 and 55oC. The largest energy-consuming appliance in your home is your refrigerator. Make sure the seal on the door is tight.
What does the EnerGuide label mean on an appliance? The EnerGuide label shows the appliance has been tested and meets minimum energy efficiency standards. The lower the EnerGuide rating, the more energy-efficient the appliance.
How can I check if my toilet is leaking water?
Put a little food colouring into the tank and wait 30 minutes; if the colouring appears in the toilet, you have a leak.
How much water should I use on my lawn each week?
Lawn only need one inch of water a week – and this includes rain. To test it, step on the grass. If it doesn’t spring back after you remove your foot, then it needs water.
