Timetable of an Outage Response
The following timetable will give you some idea of the steps that London hydro goes through to get the power back on when a power outage occurs somewhere across its network. Every response time will be different according to the cause and severity of the problem.
7:00 p.m.: A customer calls London Hydro to report the power is out on his street.
7:04 p.m.: The dispatcher immediately alerts a line crew.
7:20 p.m.: The crew arrives at the power-outage area and inspects the circuit to find the problem. Heavy ice build-up has caused a line to come down, and 350 residents in the neighbourhood are now without power.
8:06 p.m.: The crew ensures the downed electric line is safely de-energized (no electricity flowing through it) and requests a back-up crew to assist with the repair operation.
9:32 p.m.: Electricity is safely restored to all residents in the neighbourhood. The line crew informs the Operations Centre that the repairs have been made. They are notified that another line in the north of the city is down. The two crews are redirected to the scene to begin another power restoration process.
