Micro-generation Incorporation

Micro-generation is defined as generation of 10 kW or less.

London Hydro Inc. has adopted the regulations with respect to embedded micro-generation facilities as determined by the OEB in the DSC.  The process and the requirements that the generator must comply with are outlined below.

General Guidelines for Interconnection

  • Micro-generation can be supported “behind-the-meter” (the generation facility located on the customer side of the connection point).  This simplifies the interconnecting equipment and lowers the costs.
  • If there is no secondary service at the particular geographic location where the applicant is interested in generating, the meter installation required will be treated as any other connection application charged at the published standard rates, according to London Hydro’s Conditions of Service.
London Hydro’s Requirements for Applicants

  • London Hydro Inc. will require the applicant to submit London Hydro’s Micro-Embedded Generation Facility Connection Agreement in order to initiate the process of connecting a micro-generation facility.
  • London Hydro Inc. will follow the process described in Appendix F of the latest version of the Distribution System Code, Section F.1.1 – Connection Process for Micro-Embedded Generation Facility to connect micro-generation.
  • London Hydro Inc. will require the applicant to obtain and submit an electrical inspection certificate from the Electric Safety Authority (ESA).  The generator should contact ESA (toll free telephone number: 1-877-372-7233) to obtain a copy of the “Guidelines for Inverter-Based Micro-Generating Facility (10 kW and Smaller)” which sets the minimum technical requirements for a generator connection.
  • London Hydro Inc. will apply its Conditions of Service to the connection process.
