Call For Conservation

July 12, 2005 - London, Ontario

London Hydro reminds Londoners to conserve electricity where possible. The extended forecast indicates that hot humid weather will be around for the next few days, which means an increase in electricity consumption as air conditioners are in full operation.

The Independent Electricity Supply Operator has forecasted the demand for Ontario today of 25,830 MW at 5:00 p.m. This forecast is slightly below the new record set on June 27, 2005 at 26,157 MW.

By conserving electricity, we can all do our part to reduce the total consumption in the province and take the strain off the power grid.

As hot humid weather is expected for the balance of the week, London Hydro encourages all Londoners to use energy wisely. Simple measures can go a long way in reducing overall consumption and your electricity bill.

Consider, setting the air conditioner a few degrees higher and closing the drapes during the day to keep the warm sunlight out. Use ceiling fans to help circulate the air and help make air conditioning units operate more efficiently.

London Hydro has reduced electricity consumption within our own facilities and we encourage London’s business community to conserve electricity where possible.
