Refrigerators
- Temperature should be between 2°C and 5°C for efficient operation.
- Keep refrigerator full – but not overloaded – for efficient use of electricity.
- Retrieve items quickly to prevent rapid loss of cold air.
- Test the door seal occasionally to check that it is airtight.
- Defrost frozen food in the refrigerator to help keep it cool and save energy otherwise used defrosting in a microwave oven.
- A second, older refrigerator can be very inefficient.
