London Hydro is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Planner Systems Operator to join our System Operating Centre (SOC) team. Working under the direction of the SOC Supervisor or designate, and building on your senior-level experience as a Systems Operator, you will play a key role in planning, coordinating, and scheduling work that impacts the London Hydro distribution system. This critical position involves leading the efficient planning of equipment and power outages, ensuring system integrity, and collaborating closely with internal departments and external stakeholders. You will be responsible for assigning job packages, managing switching plans, and supporting the SOC team to maintain supply redundancy and minimize customer impact. Under the direction of the System Operating Centre Supervisor, or designate, and in a senior capacity in the originating position of Systems Operator, plan, coordinate and schedule work affecting the London Hydro distribution system. The incumbent is expected to lead the efficient planning and scheduling of equipment and power outages while collaborating with other departments or external parties.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Perform the duties of the Systems Operator.
Lead the coordination, organization, and prioritization of the SOC job schedule. Assign the job package creation, detailing the switching plan, and necessary documents. Ensure equipment limits are respected while prioritizing supply redundancy, customer impact, and maintaining system integrity.
Follow-up with System Operating Centre personnel to ensure that all planned switching is completed as scheduled and report any issues encountered to the supervisor.
Follow up on system deficiencies by using the escalation process of notifying the involved groups to restore the system to normal operating conditions.
Assist the Supervisor in monitoring, prioritizing and assigning planning related work to self and to others in the SOC Department. Report outstanding work to supervisor and provide options for completion.
Act as a resource in the resolution of technical problems and issues.
Assist with creating, maintaining and documenting procedures, processes, and training materials. Compile and analyze technical and operational data and prepare reports.
Regular schedule consists of an eight (8) hour day shift, Monday to Friday, between 0600 and 1800.
Adhere to all Occupational Health & Safety Act rules and regulations, the IHSA’s EUS rulebook, and London Hydro work practices. Report all injuries and near misses immediately. Perform all activities in a manner that protects the health and safety of yourself and others. Wear personal protective equipment as required. Understand and comply with London Hydro Health and Safety policies.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING
Graduate of an Electrical Engineering Technician or Technologist program.
Class G Driver’s Licence (a driver's license and an ability to drive is required in order to discharge the essential duties of the position).
Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Journeyperson Systems Operator.
MEARIE Journeyperson Municipal Electrical Operator Certification.
IHSA Utility Work Protection Code Certification and working knowledge of the IHSA Electrical Utilities Safety Rules (EUSR).
Knowledge of the planning, design, operation of high-voltage overhead and underground systems including substations, and low voltage network systems. Knowledge of associated equipment, standards and system connectivity.
A high degree of computer literacy, with proficiency in the use of SCADA, Outage Managements Systems (OMS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and personal computer applications including Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
Able to demonstrate analytical thinking, problem solving, organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
Effective communicator with strong verbal and written communication skills.
Able to make decisions quickly and decisively during periods of high activity.
Ability to work independently and take initiative.
Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service by using processes and procedures that are customer-oriented and seeking solutions to resolve service issues.
Lead by example, demonstrating integrity, creativity, and enthusiasm in achieving results directly and through staff work teams. Demonstrated strong listening, concentration, organizational, motivational, and leadership skills required.
