London, ON - London Hydro will provide an additional $150,000 in 2020, to the London LEAP Program to help customers in these trying times that are having difficulty paying their electricity bill. The LEAP Program is distributed by the Salvation Army Centre of Hope and provides assistance to customers.
“As we have a continuing need for social distancing and only essential businesses continuing to operate, more and more people will be in a situation where they may need some help,” said Vinay Sharma, CEO.
“We are pleased that we are able to provide more funds to the LEAP Program in addition to the previously provided sum of $250,000 and appreciate the hard work of the Salvation Army as they provide a very essential community service by providing assistance to those in need.”
London Hydro is also scaling back on non-essential work and performing all work necessary to improve the integrity of our system to ensure we continue to supply a safe, reliable supply of electricity to Londoners.
London Hydro is also facing cash flow challenges during these extraordinary times, and will increase its borrowing to manage the cash flow challenges, while providing service excellence to its customers.
“The funds provided for the LEAP program will allow the Housing Stability Bank to provide financial assistance to support the City of London’s most vulnerable citizens and those individuals and families that have been impacted by the COVID-19 crisis,” said Jon DeActis, Executive Director, The Salvation Army Centre of Hope.
“The additional funding we received this year will greatly contribute to easing the financial burden to those that are currently unable to cover all of their household expenses, and will go a long way to ensuring that vital services such as electricity and water are maintained during such a precarious time. The additional funds will allow the Housing Stability Bank to have a greater impact on the community by providing this support to many additional households in need.”
