London is seeing a steady increase in electric vehicle (EV) adoption, with 4,550 electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles on our roads as of March 30th, 2025. This figure represents a 50% annual increase compared to the previous year, with battery electric vehicles gaining traction at a slightly faster rate. Currently, approximately 63% of the vehicles are fully battery electric vehicles and 37% are plug-in hybrid vehicles.
To support this momentum, London has more than 450 public EV chargers across the city, including over 300 Level 2 and DC fast chargers, making it easier than ever for residents and visitors to charge up and stay on the move.
London Hydro and the City of London actively support local EV adoption and education through initiatives such as the EV Open House. Last year's event brought together 20 local dealerships showcasing over 50 electric and hybrid vehicles, attracting more than 600 attendees eager to learn about the benefits of EVs.
If you're interested in making the switch to electric, we encourage you to visit Plug’n Drive, a dedicated non-profit organization working to accelerate the adoption of EVs in Canada, maximizing both environmental and economic advantages. Find Out More
If you're considering installing a home charger, please remember to hire a licensed electrical contractor. All EV charger installations require an electrical permit to ensure safety and compliance, creating a permanent record of your home electrical work. Find Out More
