Ontario Electricity Prices Changing November 1: What It Means for You

Starting November 1, 2025, the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) will implement new electricity usage rates for households and small businesses across the province. At the same time, the Ontario government is increasing the Ontario Electricity Rebate (OER) from 13.1% to 23.5%, providing additional support to help offset the cost of electricity. 

The estimated impact for a household using 700 kWh per month could be an increase of $10.50 to $11.75 on the electricity portion of their monthly bill, depending on when and how they use electricity.

“We know affordability matters to our customers, and any increase in electricity costs can have an impact on household budgets,” said Ysni Semsedini, CEO of London Hydro. “Our priority is to help customers make informed choices and find the best plan for their needs. We’re here to provide tools, resources, and support that help you manage your energy use.”

With the OEB changes to electricity rates, London Hydro encourages customers to explore their price plan options, Time-of-Use (TOU), Tiered, or Ultra-Low Overnight (ULO, to see which plan best fits their lifestyle. Customers can use the Price Plan Calculator in their MyLondonHydro account, which analyzes their actual usage history to help them make the best choice for their electricity usage.

For anyone experiencing difficulty paying their bill, London Hydro reminds customers that support programs such as the Ontario Electricity Support Program (OESP) and the Low-income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP) are available to provide financial relief.
