Outdoor Movie Nights are running a little quieter and greener this summer thanks to the addition of two new battery-powered generators. The new units replace traditional gas-powered units and will help reduce emissions, eliminate noise and even make setup easier.
The generators were made possible through London Hydro’s sponsorship of the City’s popular Outdoor Movie Nights program. While they’ll power movie nights all summer long, the units will also be available for use at other City events in the future.
The battery-powered units support the City's efforts to reduce emissions, while the technology also creates a quieter experience for moviegoers and nearby residents. The lightweight units are easy to store and lift, helping City staff to deliver community events more efficiently.
"These new battery-powered generators are a great example of how small changes behind the scenes can make a big difference for our community," says Cheryl Smith, Deputy City Manager, Neighbourhood and Community-Wide Services. "We're grateful for London Hydro's sponsorship, which is helping us enhance the program while reducing emissions and creating a better experience for Londoners."
As the first battery-powered generators being used for City of London special events, the new units mark a positive step towards hosting community gatherings using cleaner technology.
"Supporting Outdoor Movie Nights is one way we're proud to invest in the communities we serve," said London Hydro CEO Ysni Semsedini. "We're excited these battery-powered generators will help the City deliver cleaner, quieter events this summer and create even more opportunities for people to come together, connect with their neighbours, and enjoy everything our community has to offer."
Outdoor Movie Nights continue throughout the summer at parks across London. The program is made possible through the support of sponsors London Hydro and WFCU Credit Union. Residents can view the full schedule at london.ca/OutdoorMovies.
