Regulated Price Plan Hours and Thresholds Changes Effective May 1, 2025: What You Need to Know

Published Date
Thursday, May 1, 2025

As part of seasonal adjustments set by the Ontario Energy Board (OEB), changes to the Regulated Price Plan (RPP) will take effect on May 1, 2025.

These updates are part of a regularly scheduled transition from winter to summer pricing periods and are intended to reflect shifts in electricity usage patterns during warmer months.

What’s Changing?

  • Time-of-Use (TOU) Pricing Hours: The Summer TOU hours will be implemented and adjust the time periods during which electricity prices apply.

  • Tiered Pricing Thresholds: The thresholds that determine how much electricity can be used at a lower price tier will also change for the summer season.

These changes are designed to encourage energy conservation during periods of high demand and help consumers better manage their electricity use.

What’s Not Changing?

While TOU hours and Tiered thresholds are being updated, it's important to note that electricity rates themselves are not changing. This includes rates for:

  • Time-of-Use (TOU)
  • Tiered Pricing
  • Ultra-Low Overnight (ULO) pricing – all aspects of this plan remain the same.

Duration of Changes

These summer pricing parameters will remain in effect from May 1, 2025, through October 31, 2025. At that time, the RPP will transition back to winter TOU hours and Tiered thresholds, as per the standard seasonal cycle.
