We're upgrading the electrical system in your neighbourhood
London Hydro is improving the electrical system in the Huron Heights neighbourhood to provide safe, reliable service for years to come.
Construction is expected to begin in Fall 2026 and will take about 12 weeks to complete.
This project will replace aging electrical equipment with a modern underground system that meets today's standards.

Project Area
Customers in the 2026 construction area will see work taking place along the road in front of their homes and, in some cases, on their property.
Some nearby homes are part of a future phase planned for 2027. Those customers will receive information before work begins in their area.
Why is this work needed?
Much of the electrical equipment in this neighbourhood has reached the end of its expected service life.
This project will:
- Improve the reliability of your electrical service.
- Replace aging overhead electrical equipment.
- Move electrical wires underground.
- Upgrade the neighbourhood to London's current electrical standard.
- Help prepare the system for future growth.
What work will you see?
Construction will happen in stages.
Installing underground electrical ducts
Crews will install underground pipes (called ducts) along roads and, where needed, on private property.
Whenever possible, crews will use directional drilling to reduce digging and minimize disruption. Some locations may still require open trenches.
Installing new underground electrical cables
Once the ducts are in place, crews will pull new electrical cables through them.
You may see construction vehicles and equipment working along the road and boulevard during this stage.
Upgrading your home's electrical service
Homes in the project area will receive a new underground electrical service.
Depending on your property, this may include:
- installing new underground cable
- relocating your electrical meter
- adding conduit on the outside of your home
- installing conduit inside your basement or attic
If changes are needed to your home's electrical service, London Hydro and our contractor will contact you to explain the work before it begins.
Planned power outages
A short planned power outage will be needed when your home is connected to the new system.
You'll receive at least 48 hours' notice before any planned outage. A notification card will be delivered to your mailbox, so please check it regularly during construction.
Removing old overhead equipment
Once the new underground system is operating, the old overhead electrical wires will be removed.
Some backyard poles will remain because they are owned by Bell Canada and support communication services.
Some tree trimming may be required to safely remove the old electrical wires.
Property restoration
We know construction can be disruptive.
When work is finished, affected areas will be restored as close as possible to their original condition.
This may include:
- replacing sod
- repairing lawns
- restoring landscaping
London Hydro will water new sod for the first 30 days after it is installed. After that, homeowners will be responsible for watering.
If a tree must be removed as part of the project, you will be notified in advance. The City of London will replace removed trees after the project is complete.
What to expect during construction
While work is underway, you may notice:
- construction vehicles and equipment
- temporary digging or directional drilling
- workers on the road allowance and, where required, on private property
- short-term noise and dust
- temporary driveway interruptions (coordinated with homeowners in advance)
Our crews will work to keep disruptions as short as possible while completing the work safely.
