London Hydro Tree Power Program Returns for 14th Year

London Hydro and the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA) have once again partnered for the 14th year of the Tree Power program. The program was initiated by the late Bill Kunz, a London Hydro employee who approached the UTRCA in 2012 with the idea of making native trees available and affordable for residents of London via London Hydro sponsorship. Over the years, Tree Power has resulted in over 6,000 trees planted by London residents and is now offered in six additional municipalities across the watershed. The Kunz family, including Bill’s wife, daughter and grandchildren, carry on his legacy by volunteering on tree pick-up days.

“Tree Power is one of our most successful programs and we are excited to have new and returning customers take advantage of it each year. It’s a great way for Londoners to improve their local environment, reduce residential heating and cooling costs, and increase biodiversity. Thanks to sponsorship from London Hydro, we can provide trees to residents at a very affordable price,” said Robert Davies, UTRCA Forestry and Restoration Supervisor.

There are 10 tree species available this year: American Sycamore, Basswood, Bur Oak, Hackberry, Paper Birch, Red Oak, Sugar Maple, Tulip, White Pine, and White Spruce trees. These species were selected as they are well-suited to the area. London Hydro Tree Power orders will open on Monday, March 2nd at 9 am in the online shop

The trees will be available for pick-up at Fanshawe Conservation Area in London on April 10th and 11th.
